Inches for the US Print Workflow

US print sizes follow inches: 4×6 photos, 8.5×11 letter, 11×17 tabloid. The inch resizer outputs images at the exact target dimensions with print-quality DPI baked in.

Used by US-based etsy sellers, photographers, and small print shops where every order is specified in inches.

Why Use Our Image Resizer in Inches?

Exact Inch Sizing

Set the exact width and height in inches with 0.1 inch precision. The pixel output is calculated at 200 DPI using the formula px = inches × 200. Perfect for US passport photos (2×2), business cards (3.5×2), photo prints (4×6, 5×7, 8×10), US Letter pages (8.5×11), and any other inch-based requirement.

US Print Presets

Six built-in presets cover the most common US print and photo sizes: 2×2 US passport, 3.5×2 business card, 4×6 photo, 5×7 print, 8×10 portrait, and 8.5×11 US Letter. One click sets both width and height. You can also enter custom values manually for any other size you need, including fractional inches.

Smart File Size Compression

Toggle Optimize File Size and enter your target KB. The tool runs a binary search over JPEG quality (5%-95%) and re-encodes the image until the resulting file size is within 5 KB of your target. Useful for application portals or email size limits that cap uploads at 100 KB, 200 KB, or other specific values.

Private, No Upload

Your image never leaves your device. The entire tool, file loading, resize, compression, runs in your browser using the HTML5 Canvas API. No file is sent to any server, no account is needed, and nothing is stored. The downloaded JPG, PNG, or WebP is generated entirely on your device.

Frequently Asked Questions

Common questions about resizing images in inches.

How are inches converted to pixels?
The conversion uses the formula pixels = inches × DPI. This tool uses 200 DPI by default, a standard print resolution that balances file size with quality. So 2 inches at 200 DPI = 2 × 200 = 400 pixels. The pixel size of the output is determined entirely by the inch values you enter and the fixed 200 DPI setting.
Why does my image look stretched?
The tool stretches the image to exactly fill the target width and height, it does not preserve the original aspect ratio unless you toggle the Lock Aspect Ratio switch. To avoid distortion, enable the lock or use width and height values that match the original image proportions. The aspect ratio is captured the moment you turn on the lock.
How does file size optimization work?
When the Optimize toggle is on and the format is JPG or WebP, the tool runs a binary search over the encoder quality. It starts at 95%, encodes the canvas, measures the result, and adjusts the quality up or down until the file size is within 5 KB of your target. Up to 10 iterations are performed. PNG is lossless and is not affected by this option.
Which output format should I pick?
Choose JPG for photographs and most government portals, it gives the smallest file size with very good quality. Choose PNG for graphics, screenshots, or images with transparency, it is lossless but larger. Choose WebP for the best balance of size and quality on modern websites; it is supported by all current browsers.
