Slice an Image into Grid Pieces

Instagram grid posts and printed jigsaw puzzles both need a single image cut into perfect pieces. Pick rows and columns, hit Download, and the tool outputs every slice in a single ZIP.

Also useful for designers prototyping mobile layouts where each grid cell becomes a card in the final UI.

Why Use Our Image Splitter?

Live Grid Preview

Set the number of rows and columns and watch the grid overlay update on the canvas in real time. Toggle the overlay on/off, see the live tile pixel size and total piece count, and pick the layout that fits before splitting. The dashed primary-colored grid lines are preview-only, they are never baked into the final tiles.

Instagram-Ready Presets

Six one-click presets cover the most common splits: 3×3 (the classic Instagram grid centerpiece), 3×2, 2×2, 4×4, 1×3 and 3×1 strips. Or enter custom values up to 20×20 for big puzzles, web mosaic backgrounds, or Pinterest layouts.

Single ZIP Download

Click Split & Download ZIP and every tile is encoded to your chosen format (JPG, PNG, or WebP), bundled into a folder named after the source file and grid (e.g. photo_3x3/), and downloaded as a single ZIP. Tiles are numbered tile_row_col so they sort cleanly in any file manager.

Private, No Upload

Splitting and ZIP creation run entirely in your browser using the HTML5 Canvas API and ZIP engine. Your image is never sent to any server, no account is needed, and nothing is stored. The downloaded ZIP is generated locally on your device.

Frequently Asked Questions

Common questions about splitting images into grid tiles.

How do I make a perfect Instagram grid post?
Start with a square image (a 3:1, 3:2, or 1:1 ratio works best). Pick the 3×3 preset (or 3×2 for a 6-tile post). Each tile will be square if the source is square, so post them in reverse order, bottom-right tile first, then bottom-middle, etc., so the assembled grid reads correctly when visitors look at your profile.
What is the maximum grid size?
Up to 20 rows × 20 columns = 400 tiles. The actual practical limit depends on your source image resolution, for very small source images, individual tiles may end up under 50 px and look pixelated. For large grids (10×10 or more) start with at least a 3000 × 3000 px source image.
How are the tiles named in the ZIP?
Each tile is named tile_row_col with the chosen extension, e.g. tile_1_1.jpg is the top-left tile, tile_3_3.jpg is the bottom-right of a 3×3. They sort in row-major order when viewed alphabetically in any file manager. The ZIP itself is named after the source filename plus the grid dimensions (e.g. mountain_split_3x3.zip).
Does the tool upload my image?
No. The image is loaded into a canvas locally on your device, sliced locally, and zipped locally using ZIP engine. Nothing is transmitted to any server, and nothing is stored after you close the page.
