Open ZIP Files Without Installing Software

You receive a ZIP from a client and your work laptop has no extraction software. The unzipper opens the archive in your browser, lets you preview every file inside, and extracts only the ones you actually need.

No installs, no command-line, just a clean tree view of the archive ready to navigate.

Why Use Our Online ZIP Extractor?

Browse Archive Contents

After opening a ZIP file the tool lists every entry inside, full file path, compressed size, and original (uncompressed) size, so you can see exactly what is in the archive before downloading anything. File-type icons help spot images, PDFs, code, and audio files at a glance.

Per-File Extraction

Each entry has its own download icon, click any single file to pull just that one out of the archive. Useful when you only need one document or asset from a large bundle and do not want every file to flood your downloads folder.

Extract All Files

Click Extract All Files and the tool downloads every entry sequentially, with a small delay between each save to keep the browser responsive. Each file is saved with its original filename so they drop straight into your downloads folder ready to use.

Private, No Upload

ZIP engine runs entirely in your browser and reads your ZIP file directly from disk via the File API. No archive is sent to any server, no account is needed, and nothing is stored. Perfect for confidential documents, client deliverables, and other archives you cannot upload to third-party services.

Frequently Asked Questions

Common questions about extracting ZIP archives in the browser.

Can I extract password-protected ZIP files?
No. ZIP engine, the library powering this tool, does not support encrypted ZIP archives. If your archive is password-protected, you will see an error when opening it. Use a desktop tool like 7-Zip, WinRAR, or Keka, or our online unlock-pdf-style flow with a desktop archiver.
Does it support RAR or 7Z files?
No, only standard ZIP archives are supported. RAR is a proprietary format and 7Z requires a different decoder. If you have a RAR or 7Z archive, decompress it on your desktop and re-zip the contents (or use one of our other archive tools) before bringing it back into this tool.
How big a ZIP can I open?
There is no hard limit, but practical browser memory limits apply. Most browsers happily handle archives up to a few hundred megabytes. For very large multi-gigabyte archives, the loadAsync step can take a while or run out of memory. If that happens, use a desktop archiver instead.
Does the tool upload my ZIP to a server?
No. ZIP engine runs entirely in your browser. Your archive is read into memory locally, parsed locally, and any extracted files are saved locally to your downloads folder. Nothing is transmitted to any server, and nothing is stored after you close the page.
