Write Titles and Descriptions That Fit

Your title tag and meta description are the first thing people read about your page in search. They decide whether someone clicks your result or scrolls past it, so they are worth getting right before you publish.

The catch is that Google does not measure them in characters. It cuts titles and descriptions by pixel width, so two titles with the same character count can truncate differently depending on the letters in them. A title full of wide letters runs out of room sooner than one full of narrow ones.

This preview shows the real result as you type, on desktop and mobile, and tracks both pixel width and character count against the limits Google uses. Write your snippet, watch the counters, and publish knowing it will not get cut off.

Frequently Asked Questions

Common questions about search snippets and meta tags.

How long should a title tag be?
Aim for under about 60 characters or 600 pixels. Google truncates titles by pixel width, so the preview counter shows both numbers and warns you when you go over.
How long should a meta description be?
Around 150 to 160 characters, or under about 990 pixels, keeps it from being cut off on desktop. Mobile shows a little less, so the preview lets you check both.
Why does Google measure in pixels?
Letters have different widths. A capital W is much wider than a lowercase i, so Google measures the rendered width rather than the raw character count to decide where to cut.
Will Google always use my title and description?
Not always. Google may rewrite a title or pull a different description from the page if it thinks another option fits the search better. A clear, relevant snippet makes that less likely.
Does this preview match Google exactly?
It is a close approximation built from the fonts, sizes, and limits Google uses. Real results can vary slightly by query, device, and ongoing changes, so treat it as a strong guide.
Is this SERP preview tool free?
Yes, it is completely free with no signup and no limits. It runs entirely in your browser, so nothing you type leaves your device.
